About Sara Boucher

You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.

I have completed two marathons and an Ironman.  You would think that pushing my body through 140.6 miles of swimming, biking and running would be the hardest thing I've ever done.  Think again.

I've known since high school that I was destined to have three little letters after my name.  I didn't know that it'd take a lot of perseverance, time, and money to get into a doctoral program.  I started applying to schools in the fall of 2004.  In the fall of 2011, I finally got in.

Why all the effort?  Well, frankly, I am on a quest to spread the word that the numbers on the scale do not perfectly describe how healthy a person is.  Through personal experience, education, and research I have found that humans are wonderfully complex and "diet + exercise = health" is not a perfect equation.

Now, I am beginning an incredible journey to earn a PhD in public health.  Hopefully, the experience that I gain at the University of Otago will open doors for me to build a lifelong career around expanding our knowledge of eating behavior and how it affects health.
